THE PROCESS OF INNOVATION

At Phoenix Technologies, our quality is born out of our process – the process of innovation. By using patented technologies in combination with our proprietary blending methods and fine mesh melt filtration systems, we create the high quality recycled PET our customer have come to expect from us for over 15 years.

All of our products start with the same basic process steps – securing clean post consumer PET flake. This flake is recovered from bales collected from the bottles the consumer puts into his curbside collection bins or takes to his local recycling center.

Non Food Grade NLP™

Non Food Grade (NLP™ Brand) – In 1992, Phoenix developed a bottle grade resin for those applications that are non food contact. Made from 100% post consumer recycled PET, NLP™ can be blended with virgin resin at high levels to mimic virgin appearance, performance and cost. The process involves melting the flakes through a fine mesh filtration process to remove remaining contaminants such as aluminum, glass, and label to minimize surface imperfections. Converters who injection mold preforms and need to avoid plugged hot runners and valve gates find this process particularly invaluable.

This product is available in pellet (NLP™) form.

Food Grade (LNO™ Brand) – In 2001, Phoenix Technologies introduced a proprietary patented approach to decontaminating rPET to produce a resin for direct food contact applications. The process has received a letter of non objection from the FDA and various other international food safety agencies to allow customer use of up to 100% LNO™ resin produced from curbside recycled PET.

Food Grade LNO™ F Resin Flake

In order to meet the stringent requirements necessary for food contact applications, the recycled material must go through several steps prior to entering into the extrusion process used for non food applications. Clean flake is processed under patented technology through a decontamination system comprised of rotary vacuum dryers under pre-determined pressure, time and temperatures. During this process, all organics are off-gassed. The resulting flake is a FDA approved high IV rPET which then is extruded through our continuous fine mesh melt filtration to make a high quality pellet that removes any remaining particles of aluminum, glass, etc for ease of use by packaging converters.

This product is available in pellet (LNO™ P resin) form.

Food Grade LNO™ c Resin

For those processes that include melt filtration on their systems, as in the production of thermoforming sheet stock, we offer a fine grind flake (LNO™ F Resin) form.

In 2003, Phoenix recognizing the potential for growth in food contact applications, began developing an improved food grade rPET product. In 2007, Phoenix introduced our newest LNO™ product, LNO™ c resin, a pellet that has been formed from the compaction of a fine grind powder. This product offers unique benefits in color and IV properties over traditional rPET food grade resins. And for applications like water, LNO™ c resin offers exceptionally low levels of acetaldehyde, sometimes even below that of virgin resins. Based on the simplified manufacturing process, the product is very cost competitive with the virgin resins it may be blended with.

This product is available in compacted pellet (LNO™ c resin) form.
